Beef in Soy Sauce Recipe

(Low Fat Asian Recipe)

Ingredients:  Serves 5

600 g lean beef

1/2 tablespoon thick soy sauce

1/2 teaspoon salt

2 tablespoons vegetable oil

2 green chilies, deseed and cut into big slices

1 big onion, peeled and cut into rings

 

Grind finely to a paste:

100 g shallots, peeled

20 g garlic, peeled

1 knob 2-cm piece of ginger, peeled

2 stalks lemon grass (serai), use the bottom inner tender part only, sliced thinly

1/2 cup of water

 

Garnishing:

2 tomatoes, sliced round

200 g frozen green peas, defrost and rinse with boiled water

5 lettuce, washed and dried

 

Method:

Wash and drain the beef and cut into 4 cm thick pieces.  Marinate beef with grounded paste for 30 minutes.  Heat oil, add in marinated beef and cook until fragrant.  Add thick soy sauce, salt, onion, green chilies and stir.  Lower heat and cook until meat is tender and gravy thickens.   Remove and garnish with tomato, green peas and lettuce.  Serve hot with steamed rice.
