Sesame Snaps Recipe

(Low Fat Recipe)

Ingredients:  Makes 30, Oven: Preheat to 180C

8 oz (225 g) plain wholemeal flour

⅛ level teaspoon salt

level teaspoon baking powder

2 oz (60 g) polyunsaturated margarine

1 oz (30 g) sesame seeds

4 tablespoons skimmed or low-fat milk

1 egg white, size 2

1 level teaspoon paprika

Method:

Sift the flour, salt and baking powder into a bowl, tipping in the bran left in the sieve.  Rub in the margarine, stir in half the sesame seeds and make a well in the center.  Set aside tablespoon of the milk.  Lightly beat the rest with the egg white and pour into the well.  Mix to a firm, even-textured dough.  Roll out on a lightly floured surface until ⅛ inch (3 mm) thick.  Cut with a sharp knife into 3 x 1 inch (75 x 40 mm) oblongs.  Arrange well spaced out on lightly greased baking sheets.  Knead and roll out the pastry trimmings to cut into more oblongs.  Brush the biscuits with the reserved milk and sprinkle the remaining sesame seeds and the paprika on top.  Bake in the heated oven for about 15 minutes, or until lightly browned.  Put the biscuits on wire racks to cool before storing in an airtight tin.
